Volunteer Fire & Rescue

Support and protect your community

Become a Volunteer with Pinos Altos Fire & Rescue

At Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire & Rescue (PAVFR), community is everything. Our department is powered by more than 50 volunteers who give their time, skills, and energy to keep neighbors safe. Whether you’re fighting fires, responding to medical calls, or helping maintain our stations and vehicles, there’s a place for you here.

Levels of Involvement

  • Full Members – These volunteers meet the full set of requirements and are eligible to participate in responses. Some choose to pursue advanced certifications, while others focus on core response duties such as wildland firefighting or motor vehicle accidents.

  • Associate Members – Perfect for those with less time to commit, but still eager to serve. Associate members may help with dispatch, vehicle checks, equipment inventory, or station maintenance.

No matter your role, you’ll be part of a team that makes a real difference.

Requirements to Stay Active

To remain “active” and eligible for response, all members must:

  • Act safely in all circumstances.

  • Possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license.

  • Respond to emergencies, as available, within your scope of training.

  • Follow all department Standard Operating Guidelines.

  • Attend at least 6 of 12 department meetings each year.

  • Take part in regular station maintenance and projects.

A complete list of requirements, including EMS and firefighter certifications, is available in our Operations Manual.

Training & Support

  • Training Provided – All required training and personal protective equipment are provided by Grant County.

  • Choose Your Path – Members may pursue additional training based on their interests and availability.

  • Flexibility – Some volunteers dedicate hundreds of hours; others contribute in small but vital ways. Every role matters.
